Special BSSA issue on rotational seismology

BSSA SPECIAL ISSUE ON

ROTATIONAL SEISMOLOGY AND ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS

Call for Papers

The Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America (BSSA) will publish a special issue on rotational seismology and engineering applications in May 2009. This special issue will be dedicated to the emerging field of  seismological research on all aspects of rotational ground motions  (including theory, instrumentation, observation, and interpretation) from teleseismic and local earthquakes, as well as on rotations in structural response. The editors welcome the submission of original articles, short technical notes, in-depth and up-to-date reviews, and tutorials. Electronic supplements are encouraged for this issue because they will provide online access to supporting materials including data, software, and other information.

Authors considering submitting papers to this special issue are encouraged to contact one of the guest editors:

  1. William H. K. Lee, U.S. Geological Survey (">) will handle papers on rotational motions in the near-field, and reviews and tutorials on rotational seismology in general. Authors who wish to write reviews or tutorials must contact Dr. Lee before submitting papers.

  2. Mehmet Çelebi, U.S. Geological Survey (">) will oversee papers on observation and interpretation of rotational motions in engineered structures.

  3. Maria Todorovska, University of Southern California (">) will cover theoretical aspects and numerical simulations of rotations in structural response.

  4. Heiner Igel, University of Munich (">) will be responsible for papers on rotational motions in the far-field.

Submissions to this special issue will be accepted starting in mid-April 2008. The deadline for submission is 31 May 2008. Manuscripts should be prepared as described at http://www.seismosoc.org/publications/bssa.html and in recent issues of BSSA. Please note that the submission process is likely to change before mid-April; authors should recheck this information as the submission period approaches. Questions may be addressed to Carol Mark, managing editor, at ">.
